Effect of Stress Ratio on the Fatigue Crack Growth Behaviour of C/C Composites

چکیده
INTRODUCTION C/C composites have been used for aerospace application due to their excellent properties such as low density, high heat resistance in inert gas atmosphere, high specific strength and etc. Since C/C composites have relatively higher fracture resistance than other CMCs, this material can also be used as structural components with high reliability. The fatigue properties are also important in long-time use of C/C composites as a structure. Although many researchers have been studying the mechanical properties of this material, its properties related to fatigue have not been studied in sufficient details so far. In this study, tension-tension fatigue tests were performed with compact tension specimen of C/C composites with 0/90 layers. The effect of stress ratio on fatigue crack growth behaviour was also investigated based on fracture mechanics.

In this study, the pitting type of corrosion growth characteristics, fatigue crack initiation and propagation behavior; axial fatigue tests were carried out on precipitation hardened martensitic Custom 450 steel in the air and 3.5wt% NaCl solution. Using the ratio of the depth to the half-width of the pits; (a/c)= 1.5±0.2 the corrosion pit depth growth law was obtained as a function of stress a...

Fatigue crack growth is examined in P/M 2124 aluminum alloys reinforced with SiC particles (SiCp) and whiskers (SiCw) over a wide spectrum of growth rates from 10 to 10 m per cycle. Effects of aging treatment, orientation of crack growth direction with respect to the rolling direction, mean stress (or stress ratio), and reinforcement volume percent on the fatigue crack growth threshold are inve...
متن کاملEffect of Compressive Residual Stress on the Corner Crack Growth
In the present study, plasticity induced crack closure (PICC) concept and three dimensional (3D) finite element methods (FEM) are used to study the effect of compressive residual stress field on the fatigue crack growth from a hole. To investigate the effect of compressive residual stress on crack opening levels and crack shape evolution, Carlson’s experiments were simulated. Crack shape evolut...

Abstract: Rotating bending fatigue tests have been performed using smooth specimens of a rolled AZ31 magnesium alloy in laboratory air at ambient temperature. Fatigue strength and characteristic was evaluated and fracture mechanism was discussed on the basis fracture surface analysis. Electrical polishing (EP) as well as deep rolling (ball burnishing (BB)) U-notched specimens were performed on ...
